Entry #9- Social Media
Social Media
Social media has been on an uphill climb ever since I can remember. Social media has so many effects of people and how they handle it. At the beginning of my use of social media, women were supposed to look like a size 0 model, have tan legs, long hair, and never break out. That began to grow and girls all over were being casted out due to the fact that they aren't skinny enough or the fact that they aren't able to tan. This became a huge problem. I was trying to fit the perfect description of a women just so I could fit in. Although I couldn't change my skin tone I started to eat less and excessively exercise so I could be the perfect size for all of the guys and I wanted to fit the standards so bad I forgot who I was. Soon enough it all hit me at once. I did not need to feel like I should fit the standards. I don't belong to some set of standards which lowered my self-esteem. So I made my own standards. All that mine entailed was me being myself and never allowing anyone to take that away from me. Social media had put a bad image of what a women "should" look like and turned me against myself. Ladies are still facing these challenges every day. It is hard to see a beautiful women with a husband and kids and loads of money and not get jealous but social media made it seem like you are only important if you can fit into a certains standard. When it is the opposite. You are important no matter what you look like. Everyone is different and how is social media there to tell us otherwise. Social media has taken over a lot of things in people's lives and your body image should not be one.

This blog has a great positive message about negative effects of social media.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this, thank you for sharing. Social media has totally turned into something way worse. More of the impressionable youth needs to read this.
